Elementary

Grades 1 - 5

The Elementary Program is designed to create a strong foundation in multiple fundamental life skills like reading, writing, spelling and math, as well as art and physical education. These basic skills will help students through their learning years and form good study habits.
As Canadian elementary schools do not grant credits, the Elementary Program will aim to improve English Language reading, writing and speaking in a way that complements the National Curriculum. Students advance to the next grade level on completion of their curriculum requirements. Our package for the Elementary Program includes:

As part of their courses, students will also learn how to prioritize and complete assignments, set goals for learning and efficiently prepare for exams. The Canadian Curriculum will be introduced into the National Curriculum at this stage.
To integrate the Canadian Curriculum into your school’s existing syllabus, students can take on complementary courses for

4 Year High School Program

Grades 9 - 12

High school students will receive the biggest benefits of the Canadian curriculum – global exposure and new perspectives that will place them in an excellent position for their further education and future careers. During grades 9 to 12, the course is completely integrated into the National Curriculum and is designed to ensure students realize their full potential.
Students must earn 30 “Ontario Credits” in total to receive their Canadian high school diploma. Credits can be obtained across four categories
Ontario Course Credits
Granted when students pass a course from the Canadian Curriculum that is not integrated into their National Curriculum.
Equivalency Credits
Granted based on the equivalency of courses completed in the students’ National Curriculum. Here, students earn 8 credits per course from Grades 9 to 11 and 6 credits in Grade 12.
Ontario/National Collaboration Credits
Granted based on the students’ completion of courses in their National Curriculum with the integrated Canadian Curriculum through summative assessments.
Challenge Credits
Students outside of Canada can ‘challenge’ a specific course for credits or obtain them through a Final Exam. Students may earn up to 4 credits with a maximum of 2 credits in any 1 discipline.

  • High School in Canada is Grades 9-12.
  • Each course is = 1 credit, and every course is 110 hours each. The hours include independent study as well as in class. Students need 30 credits to graduate.
  • For Grades 9-11, students take 8 courses a year and earn 8 credits each year. (We can be flexible for each school and offer equivalency and collaboration credits)
  • For Grade 12, students take 6 courses and students earn their 6 Grade 12 U/M credits. These 6 credits are what Universities look at for acceptance.
  • All our international students are granted an Ontario Education Number (OEN) by the Ministry of Education, and they are registered as Canadian students.
  • We follow the Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition and the student’s transcript to determine the number of Equivalency Credits that can be granted to a student - who have already attended secondary school in their home country - a total of upto 8 credits for Grade 9, Grade 10 and Grade 11.
  • Every student in high school must complete an Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). This is usually taken in Grade 10, but can also be taken in Grade 11 and 12. This is a Ministry Standardized Test and students can complete this at their school in their home country. The school would be trained on how to administer it and mail it back to the Ministry of Education in Ontario.
  • If a student does not pass the test, they will then take a short Ontario Literacy Course (OLC4O). This course will replace the requirement for passing the Literacy Test. Students must attempt the Literacy Test at least once to be able to qualify for the Literacy Course.
  • Every student in high school must complete 10 hours of mandatory community service work each year. There are many ways for students to achieve these hours. Vineyard Education will guide students and partner schools on how to do so.
  • When students complete all their credits through Equivalency, Collaboration and Ontario Courses + Literacy Test/Course + Community Service Hours, they will be granted an Ontario Secondary School Diploma from the Ministry of Education of Ontario, Canada. This will allow students to apply and be accepted into top universities worldwide.

2 Year Condensed Program

Grades 11 and 12

The 2 Year Condensed Program offers students the chance to fast track their way to getting their globally recognised certification. Here, students can complete their High School credits in just two years.
To obtain their OSSD certification, students must earn a total of 30 credits, complete 10 hours of community service and pass the Ontario School Literacy Test.
  • The OSSD will be included in the national curriculum
  • Collaborative Credits can be done between Canada and the National curriculum
  • Students will receive a Dual High School program
  • Only 8 credits should be done (2 in Grade 11 and 6 in Grade 12)
  • The course can be done one time per week, or every Saturday morning or choose a week in November/January/February/June 2021
  • Cost only for Grade 11 and Grade 12 (2 years)
